Best Practices for Shipping Product to UNFI

This is a friendly reminder of UNFI's Load Condition requirement which can be found on page 11 of our Shipping & Handling Policies.  Following these directions can help ensure the fastest and most accurate receiving of your product.

Receiving: Proper Pallet Handling

  • All orders must be palletized, shrink wrapped, and be on a good quality GMA 4-Way, 40" x 48" pallet.  Pallets should be built to maximize space within the constraints of packaging.
  • Product should be within the perimeter of the pallet; no over hang is acceptable.  All products are to be appropriately packaged to limit damage.  Unsealed cases must be resealed or taped closed.  Damage incurred from poorly packaged products will be subject to supplier chargeback.
  • UNFI tier and height (TI/HI) requirements vary by warehouse based on product volume and slot size needs.  Fees related to the breakdown or re-stacking of products, or the use of substandard pallets will be the carrier's responsibility on all prepaid shipments, plus any applicable fees.
  • Packaging must conform to the freight carrier's requirements and be able to withstand the normal hazards of transportation.
  • Packaging must withstand normal warehouse storage conditions.
  • All corner boards must be 100% cardboard on any load to any UNFI facility.

UNFI Climate Action Partnership

UNFI is on a journey to reduce its carbon footprint and cannot achieve this goal without its partners also succeeding in reducing their global warming emissions.  The UNFI Climate Action Partnership is a free program that seeks to encourage climate action amongst our supplier partners.  Climate Action Partners will be rewarded for their progress towards a more sustainable future with benefits that may include recognition on UNFI websites, features in UNFI communications, promotions at shows, and exclusive opportunities to meet with the UNFI Sales Team.  To qualify for the program, suppliers must make a climate commitment through one of the following organizations: Climate Collaborative, Climate Neutral, Climate Pledge, Science Based Targets initiative, or SME Climate Hub.  We hope you'll consider joining the CAP to receive recognition for your climate work.  To learn more about the program and how to get involved, please contact us at climateaction@unfi.com.

Charity Golf Classic

We invite you to sponsor UNFI's upcoming Charity Golf Classic benefiting the UNFI Foundation.  The event will be held on June 6th at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, CT, directly preceding the Mohegan Natural Holiday Show.  The goal of this event is to raise funds to support the UNFI Foundation in its mission to inspire better food systems and support everyday health in our communities.  We would be honored to have your support.

Please see the event details for a list of sponsorship levels and benefits here.  You can also use this link to access to the registration page.
